Definition:
" a representation of an abstract or spiritual meaning through concrete or material forms; figurative treatment of one subject under the guise of another"
"allegory." Dictionary.com Unabridged. Random House, Inc. 17 Feb. 2010. <Dictionary.com http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/allegory>.

Cinematic Example:
Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands
  • The main character, Edward, is an allegory of a person with Asperger’s Syndrome. People with this disease will often excel in one thing, which in this case is Edward and his scissors.

Literary Example:
Animal Farm
  • The novel Animal Farm seems to be a cute and easy book to read. At the end, the animals take over the barn that is ran by humans. Although people think that this novel is just like any other fairy tale, the animals represent modern real life politics. For example, the events in the barn reflect the Stalin era.
